HB 1580 Summary

• Amends IC 20-19-2-11 to require employees' associations at schools administered by the Department of Correction, Indiana School for the Blind and Visually Impaired, or Indiana School for the Deaf to demonstrate support for professional development programs within school improvement plans.

• Modifies state board approval process to consider whether an exclusive representative (for regular schools) or employees' association (for special schools) has demonstrated support specifically for the professional development component of the plan.

• Maintains existing requirements that school improvement plans conform to IC 20-31-5 and include a professional development program conforming to IC 20-20-31.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
