Lambert Elbert, an 88-year-old Corydon barber, was named a Knight of the Legion of Honor by the French government, the highest honor bestowed for heroic deeds for France.

Elbert served in the United States Army from 1943 to 1945 as a T/4 Sergeant and tank driver in the 735th Tank Battalion, 26th Infantry Division, achieving the rank of T/4 Sergeant.

Elbert participated in the Battle of the Bulge and combat in five European countries, earning two Purple Hearts and five campaign stars.

The Indiana General Assembly recognizes Elbert's heroic actions during World War II and thanks him for his service to the nation.

The Principal Clerk of the House of Representatives will transmit a copy of the resolution to Elbert and his family.
