SB 23 Summary

• Establishes the Hoosier Commission for Communities for a Lifetime to develop recommendations on designating Indiana communities as "communities for a lifetime" where residents can organize collectively to improve quality of life.

• Commission consists of 18 members including the executive director of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (as chair), representatives from area agencies on aging, health care, universities, local government, business, and the legislature, with terms ending December 31, 2012.

• Commission shall develop criteria for community planning including affordable housing, walkable environments, access to health care and transportation, economic opportunities, and social engagement.

• Commission must submit a preliminary report to the general assembly by November 1, 2011, and a final report by November 1, 2012.

• Commission expires December 31, 2012; members receive no per diem or travel expenses.
