Senate Bill No. 50 Summary

• Requires pregnant women to obtain fetal ultrasound imaging at least 18 hours before an abortion procedure.

• Mandates that women hear the auscultation of the fetal heart tone if audible and receive a copy of the ultrasound imaging.

• Makes the ultrasound a mandatory requirement rather than optional, effective July 1, 2011.

• Designates the pregnant woman as responsible for paying the cost of the fetal ultrasound imaging.

• Amends IC 16-34-2-1.1 regarding informed consent requirements for abortion procedures.
