SB 175 Summary

• Requires hospitals licensed under Indiana Code chapters 16-21, 16-22, 16-23, and 16-23.5 to annually administer or make available influenza immunizations to employees with direct patient contact between October 1 and February 1.

• Immunizations must follow recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

• Hospitals are not required to provide immunizations if the state department determines vaccine supply is inadequate.

• Employees may be exempted from immunization requirements if they have prior documentation of recent vaccination, the vaccine is medically contraindicated, vaccination conflicts with religious beliefs, or the employee refuses after being informed of health risks.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
