Senate Bill 213 Summary

• Allows the Allen circuit court judge to appoint two full-time magistrates instead of one, effective July 1, 2011.

• Removes the Allen circuit court judge's authority to appoint a hearing officer with magistrate powers whose salary is paid by the county.

• Adds a third judge to Bartholomew superior court effective January 1, 2013, with election held November 6, 2012.

• Allows Hamilton superior court judges to jointly appoint three full-time magistrates instead of two.

• Adds a fourth judge to Johnson superior court effective January 1, 2015, with election held November 4, 2014, and authorizes Warrick circuit and superior court judges to jointly appoint one full-time magistrate.
