Senate Bill 237 Summary

• Amends IC 9-24-16-3 to allow omission of digital photographs from state identification cards for individuals with sincerely held religious objections to being photographed.

• Requires the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to provide this exemption upon request from applicants who have a religious objection to photography.

• Identification cards issued without a digital photograph must include a statement that the card may not be accepted by federal agencies for federal identification purposes.

• Effective date: July 1, 2011.
