Senate Bill 443 Summary

• Establishes the River Ridge Commerce Corridor adjacent to State Road 62 between Interstate Highway 265 and State Road 3, or adjacent to the parallel rail line in that area.

• Requires the Indiana Department of Transportation to place designating signs for the River Ridge Commerce Corridor at the northern and southern ends and within the corridor where appropriate.

• Assigns the Indiana Department of Transportation to provide annual traffic studies and relevant information to local officials; assigns the Indiana Economic Development Corporation to coordinate economic development initiatives; and assigns the Office of Community and Rural Affairs to assist local governments in developing zoning and planning standards for the corridor.

• Directs the Indiana Department of Transportation to designate State Road 62 from Interstate Highway 265 to State Road 3 as an extra heavy duty highway before the East End Ohio River Bridge linking Charlestown, Indiana to Louisville, Kentucky is completed and opened to traffic.

• Effective July 1, 2011.
