SB 447 - School Board Elections

• Shifts school board member elections from primary elections to general elections beginning in 2012, with successors to members elected in 2008 and 2010 to be elected at the 2012 and 2014 general elections respectively.

• Establishes a new petition of nomination filing process for school board candidates requiring submission 104-74 days before general elections, signed by the candidate and ten registered voters.

• Removes school board offices from primary election ballots and eliminates provisions allowing candidates to file for both party nominations and school board positions simultaneously.

• Changes the effective date for school board member terms to begin January 1 instead of July 1 following their election.

• Repeals prior statutes governing school board elections at primary elections (IC 3-8-2-2.2, IC 20-23-4-29, IC 20-23-7-8, and IC 20-23-13-2).
