Senate Bill 482 Summary

• Transfers responsibility for the GED diploma program from the state board of education to the state workforce innovation council and department of workforce development under new IC 22-4.1-18.

• Assigns the state board responsibility for planning and implementation of secondary career and technical education, including developing a comprehensive long-range state plan and distributing federal Carl D. Perkins Act funds.

• Assigns the state workforce innovation council responsibility for planning and implementation of postsecondary career and technical education and adult education programs.

• Repeals the commission for career and technical education and transfers its duties regarding GED, adult education, and postsecondary career and technical education to the council and department of workforce development.

• Makes conforming changes throughout Indiana Code to reference the new GED program location at IC 22-4.1-18 instead of IC 20-20-6.
