Memorializes Colonel William J. "Pete" Knight, born November 18, 1929 in Noblesville, Indiana, who passed away May 7, 2004 at age 74

Honors Knight's aviation career including setting the still-unbroken world speed record in a fixed wing aircraft at 4,520 miles per hour (Mach 6.7) in the X-15A-2 on October 3, 1967, and earning astronaut wings by piloting the X-15 to 280,500 feet

Recognizes his 32-year military career with over 7,000 flying hours in more than 100 aircraft, 253 combat missions in Vietnam, and numerous honors including the Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, and Harmon International Trophy

Acknowledges his post-military public service as Palmdale, California's first popularly elected Mayor (1988-1992), California State Assembly member (1992-1996), and California State Senator for the 17th District (1996-2004)

Directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit a copy of the resolution to his widow, Gail Knight
