Urges the Legislative Council to assign the Interim Sentencing Policy Committee or the Commission on Courts to study ways to improve evidence retention in criminal cases.

Identifies biologically testable evidence as particularly important to preserve for effective prosecution of cold cases and re-prosecution of reversed convictions.

Notes that additional statutory guidance may be needed regarding evidence retention requirements in criminal cases.

Requires the assigned committee or commission to present findings and recommendations in a final report when directed by the Legislative Council.

Directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit the resolution to the Legislative Council through the Executive Director of the Legislative Services Agency.
