House Bill 1078 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code provisions governing compensation for elected officers in second and third class cities and towns, effective July 1, 2012.

• Removes the prohibition on reducing an elected officer's compensation below the amount fixed for the previous year.

• Allows legislative bodies to change compensation for newly elected officers in the year they take office if the officer requests the change and the body adopts an ordinance approving it.

• Applies the same compensation change rules to both city officers (IC 36-4-7-2) and town officers (IC 36-5-3-2).
