House Bill 1142 - Summary

• Removes geographic requirements that a supervising physician must be located in the same county or a contiguous county as the physician assistant's practice location.

• Eliminates the limitation restricting physician assistants to prescribing only one 30-day supply of controlled substances; physician assistants may now prescribe controlled substances according to scope of practice without the supply restriction.

• Modifies patient chart review requirements based on years of employment: 100% for the first year, 50% for the second year, and 25% for the third year (unless the physician assistant has less than 1,800 practice hours, requiring 100% review).

• Limits physician supervision to not more than two physician assistants at a time.

• Effective July 1, 2012.
