HB 1183 Summary

• Prohibits members of the general assembly, legislative candidates, officers, employees, and their immediate family members from accepting gifts or entertainment from lobbyists, legislative liaisons, or their employers.

• Prohibits lobbyists, legislative liaisons, and their employers from giving gifts or providing entertainment to legislative persons, with exceptions for close relatives, all-member events, and items related to official duties.

• Violation of gift or entertainment prohibitions constitutes a Class B misdemeanor.

• Repeals prior gift reporting requirements for lobbyists and removes the $50/$250 threshold reporting system for gifts and entertainment expenditures.

• Effective July 1, 2012 for crime definitions and January 1, 2013 for all other provisions.
