HB 1187 - Licensure of Dietitians

• Changes regulation of dietitians from certification to licensure, renaming the "Indiana dietitians certification board" to the "Indiana dietitians licensing board"

• Requires individuals who profess to be licensed dietitians, imply such status by title/letters, or engage in the practice of dietetics to obtain a license (with specified exceptions for certain professionals and students)

• Converts all certified dietitians as of June 30, 2012 to licensed dietitians effective July 1, 2012 without requiring examination

• Modifies educational requirements, practice hours (increased from 900 to 1,200 hours), examination procedures (now conducted online), and licensure renewal processes

• Increases board meeting frequency from two to four times per year and expands the definition of dietetics to include nutrition assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and monitoring activities
