HB 1235 Summary

• Prohibits public schools and accredited nonpublic schools from beginning student instructional days before September 1, effective for the 2013-2014 school year and beyond.

• Excludes year-round schools with breaks not exceeding six weeks, schools with balanced quarterly calendars, and schools that coordinate their calendar with postsecondary institutions.

• Does not apply to collective bargaining agreements entered into before July 1, 2011.

• Becomes effective July 1, 2012.
