Authorizes local governments to use "form based codes" in zoning ordinances, allowing land use regulations to be expressed through text, diagrams, and images rather than traditional zoning methods

Permits form based codes to differentiate among neighborhoods, districts, and corridors while allowing mixed land uses and housing types within each area

Allows regulations specifying relationships between buildings and between buildings and outdoor public spaces, including streets

Enables zoning ordinances to convey community intentions regarding urban form and design through visual and textual standards

Effective date: July 1, 2012
