HB 1313 Summary

• Increases minimum student instructional days from 180 to 183 days per school year, effective July 1, 2012.

• Redefines "instructional time" to include up to three days annually for professional development (900 minutes for grades 1-6, 1,080 minutes for grades 7-12, 540 minutes for school flex programs).

• Changes minimum instructional time requirements from hours to minutes: 54,900 minutes annually for grades 1-6 and 65,880 minutes annually for grades 7-12.

• Modifies the penalty calculation formula for school corporations failing to meet minimum instructional time requirements, using per-pupil calculations based on ADM (average daily membership).

• Updates related statutes in IC 20-30-2 and IC 20-43-4-6 to reflect the shift from counting instructional days to measuring instructional time in minutes.
