HB 1371 Summary

• Requires county auditors, treasurers, recorders, surveyors, coroners, and assessors to be physically present in their offices at least 20 hours per week, effective July 1, 2012.

• Allows the county executive to increase the minimum physical presence requirement for all county officers or specific officers by resolution.

• Permits the county executive to reduce or waive the physical presence requirement specifically for the county surveyor or county coroner.

• Exempts leave time (vacation, sick, personal, and other authorized leave) from the physical presence requirement, with officers needing to be present at least 4 hours per day during weeks when not on leave.

• Establishes removal procedures allowing any county voter to file an information to remove from office a county officer who habitually violates the physical presence requirement.
