Senate Bill No. 101 Summary

• Amends the definition of "bicycle" to mean a vehicle propelled solely by human-powered foot or hand crank, operated by one or more individuals, and having two or more wheels, excluding children's ride-on toys and skateboards.

• Requires drivers overtaking a bicycle to maintain at least three feet of clearance between the vehicle and bicycle and not return to the original lane until safely clear of the bicycle.

• Establishes violation of these clearance requirements as a Class C infraction.

• Permits motor vehicles to pass bicycles in no-passing zones when safe to do so, provided the driver complies with the three-foot clearance and lane return requirements.

• Effective date: July 1, 2012.
