Reduces the penalty for unlawful possession of a firearm on school property, at school functions, or on school buses from a Class D felony to a Class A misdemeanor

Creates a new exemption allowing non-student adults who may legally possess firearms to store them in vehicles parked on school property or at school functions

Stored firearms in parked vehicles must be locked in the trunk, kept in the glove compartment of a locked vehicle, or stored out of plain sight in a locked vehicle

Maintains existing exemptions for law enforcement officers, authorized security guards, and persons transporting students to or from school

Effective date of July 1, 2012
