Senate Bill 211 Summary

• Establishes a competitive bidding program for generic drug manufacturers in therapeutic drug classifications with at least three generic alternatives, requiring participating manufacturers to bid for inclusion on a Medicaid preferred generic drug list.

• Mandates prior authorization for generic drugs not included on the Medicaid preferred generic drug list for both the Medicaid program and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

• Requires winning bidders on the preferred generic drug list to offer supplemental state rebates to the Medicaid program.

• Directs the office to request competitive bids for the preferred generic drug list at least once every five years.

• Effective July 1, 2012.
