Senate Bill 335 Summary

• Caps copayment and coinsurance amounts for prescription drugs at $200 for a one-month supply of a single drug and $500 for a one-month supply of multiple drugs under state employee health plans, accident and sickness insurance policies, and health maintenance organization contracts.

• Requires out-of-pocket prescription drug costs to be included in any annual out-of-pocket cost limitations that apply under the same health plans and policies.

• Does not mandate that health plans or policies provide prescription drug coverage and does not apply to qualified health plans offered through federal health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act.

• Applies to state employee health plans, insurance policies, and health maintenance organization contracts established, issued, or renewed after June 30, 2012.

• Effective July 1, 2012, with all provisions expiring July 1, 2014.
