Senate Enrolled Act No. 370 Summary

• Establishes a new "courtesy card" permit system for funeral directors licensed in states bordering Indiana, effective July 1, 2012

• Courtesy card holders must be licensed as funeral directors in a bordering state that reciprocally issues courtesy cards to Indiana funeral directors, and must complete an application with state certification

• Authorized activities include transporting deceased bodies to/from Indiana and bordering states, preparing and filing death certificates and disposition permits, and conducting funeral ceremonies in Indiana without supervision by an Indiana-licensed funeral director

• Courtesy card holders are prohibited from owning/operating funeral homes or crematories in Indiana, being employed by Indiana funeral homes, advertising Indiana funeral services, or preparing/embalming remains in Indiana

• The board shall establish a fee for the courtesy card consistent with fees charged by bordering states and may revoke or suspend the card for violations of Indiana laws and rules
