• Amends IC 35-47-5-4.1 to exempt persons authorized under federal law to manufacture, sell, import, or possess sawed-off shotguns from Indiana state criminal penalties.

• Maintains existing criminal prohibition against manufacturing, selling, or possessing sawed-off shotguns for persons without federal authorization, classified as a Class D felony.

• Preserves existing inference that sawed-off shotguns found in motor vehicles are in possession of vehicle occupants, with exceptions for certain occupants and licensed drivers for hire.

• Exempts law enforcement officers acting in official capacity and persons manufacturing or importing sawed-off shotguns for sale to law enforcement agencies from criminal liability.

• Effective date: July 1, 2012.
