Honors Dr. David Baker, born December 21, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indiana, a virtuoso musician and Distinguished Professor of Music and Chairman of the Jazz Department at Indiana University School of Music

Recognizes Dr. Baker's education including bachelor's and master's degrees in music education from Indiana University and his role as conductor and artistic director of the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra

Acknowledges his nominations for the Pulitzer Prize and Grammy Award, plus awards including the National Association of Jazz Educators Hall of Fame Award (1981), President's Award for Distinguished Teaching from Indiana University (1986), American Jazz Masters Award from the National Endowment of the Arts (2000), and Emmy Award for PBS documentary score (2003)

Notes Dr. Baker has created more than 2,000 compositions including jazz and symphonic works, chamber music, ballet and film scores, plus 65 recordings, 70 books, and 400 articles
