HB 1047 Summary

• Expands employment and training program priority to members of the U.S. armed forces, reserves, and National Guard (previously limited to National Guard members only) and their spouses.

• Requires the Department of Workforce Development to give priority placement in federal or state employment or training programs administered by the department to eligible military members and spouses who submit documentation of active service dates and meet program eligibility requirements.

• Defines "active duty" as full-time National Guard or reserve service exceeding 30 consecutive days in a calendar year, or active duty in the U.S. armed forces (Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, or Navy).

• Priority status expires one year after discharge or release from active duty for military members, and expires upon the member's discharge for spouses.

• Effective July 1, 2013.
