HB 1063 Summary

• Makes it a Class C misdemeanor (Class A if prior conviction) for a person to knowingly or intentionally purchase drugs containing more than 28.8 grams of ephedrine or pseudoephedrine in a one year period.

• Adds a one-year purchase limit of 28.8 grams to existing daily (3.6 grams) and 30-day (7.2 grams) purchase restrictions for ephedrine or pseudoephedrine products.

• Requires retailers to post warning signs that inform customers of the criminal offense of exceeding the one-year purchase limit of 28.8 grams.

• Allows local government units to adopt ordinances requiring that drugs containing ephedrine or pseudoephedrine be sold only pursuant to a prescription.

• Takes effect July 1, 2013.
