HEA 1112 Summary

• Write-in candidates must file a declaration of intent with the appropriate election officer before running for federal, state, legislative, local, or school board office.

• The declaration must be signed before a person authorized to administer oaths and include the candidate's name as it should appear on ballots, voter registration information, residence address, and party affiliation or independent status.

• Candidates cannot claim affiliation with any political party described in IC 3-8-4-1, and must certify compliance with campaign finance laws under IC 3-9.

• Write-in candidates become official candidates upon filing the declaration and must comply with all applicable Indiana election laws and residency requirements for their office.
