HB 1195 Summary

• Amends IC 16-37-1-8 to restrict who can receive a death certificate that includes the cause of death.

• Limits access to death certificates showing cause of death to the deceased person's parent, legal guardian, spouse, or child.

• Allows siblings or grandparents to receive death certificates with cause of death only if none of the primary relatives listed above are alive.

• Permits anyone who qualifies for a death certificate to request a version that excludes information about the cause of death.

• Effective July 1, 2013.
