HB 1302 Summary

• Lowers the mandatory school enrollment age from seven years old to five years old, effective July 1, 2013.

• Requires students to enroll in a kindergarten program that is at least a half-day program by the fall term of the school year in which they turn five years old, beginning with the 2013-2014 school year.

• Removes provisions allowing parents to delay enrollment until age seven and eliminates the superintendent appeal process for early kindergarten enrollment.

• Updates companion statutes (IC 20-51-1-4.5 and IC 20-51-1-5) defining "eligible individual" and "eligible student" to reference the new age requirement in IC 20-33-2-7.
