HB 1534 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code IC 20-51-4-4 to define maximum choice scholarship amounts for eligible students based on tuition, transfer tuition, and fees required for classroom instruction.

• Excludes the following from scholarship calculations: uniform fees, school supplies, curricular materials, computer software or equipment, and written materials used for academic instruction or tutoring.

• Establishes maximum scholarship of $4,500 per school year for students enrolled in grades 1 through 8.

• Sets scholarship amounts based on household income: 90% of state tuition support for households at federal free/reduced lunch income threshold, and 50% for households at 150% of that threshold.

• Effective date: July 1, 2013.
