HB 1550 Summary

• Establishes "PAVE certificate" as a Program for the Assessment of Veterinary Education Equivalence certificate issued by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards as equivalent to an accredited veterinary medicine degree.

• Adds PAVE certificate holders to the definition of "veterinarian" alongside graduates of accredited colleges and ECFVG certificate holders for purposes of licensure and renewal.

• Permits persons with PAVE certificates to obtain veterinary licenses in Indiana and exempts foreign veterinary college graduates obtaining PAVE certificates from licensure requirements while under supervision.

• Requires the Indiana board of veterinary medical examiners to amend administrative rules 888 IAC 1.1-6-1 and 888 IAC 1.1-7-1 by September 1, 2013 to include PAVE certificate holders as qualified applicants.

• Takes effect July 1, 2013.
