HB 1571 Summary

• Defines "automatic weapon" as any weapon that shoots more than one shot without manual reloading by a single trigger function, effective July 1, 2013.

• Defines "convertible semiautomatic weapon" as any weapon that can be readily restored to shoot more than one shot without manual reloading by a single trigger function.

• Makes manufacture, importation into Indiana, sale, purchase, possession, or transfer of a machine gun, automatic weapon, or convertible semiautomatic weapon a Class C felony.

• Allows courts to impose an additional fixed prison term of up to 20 years for persons convicted of drug dealing (cocaine, narcotic drugs, methamphetamine, or controlled substances) while knowingly or intentionally possessing a machine gun, automatic weapon, or convertible semiautomatic weapon.
