Senate Bill 141 Summary

• Establishes commendation for valor license plates in Indiana for recipients of medals or commendations for valor while serving in the United States Armed Forces, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, and Bronze Star.

• Requires applicants to present certification from the United States Department of Defense proving receipt of a valor medal or commendation and complete an application with the bureau of motor vehicles.

• Permits commendation for valor license plates to be displayed on passenger motor vehicles, trucks with declared gross weight of 11,000 pounds or less, recreational vehicles, and motorcycles.

• Sets the registration fee for commendation for valor license plates equal to the standard annual registration fee for the same vehicle classification plus any other required fees or taxes.

• Effective July 1, 2013, with provisions applying after December 31, 2013.
