SB 247 Summary

• Qualified veterans (honorable discharge holders) enrolling at Indiana state educational institutions within 12 months of discharge are eligible for resident tuition rates for undergraduate courses.

• Veterans must provide proof of Indiana residency within 12 months of enrollment by registering to vote, obtaining an Indiana driver's license or state ID, registering a motor vehicle, or obtaining employment in Indiana.

• Veterans failing to provide residency proof must pay the difference between resident and nonresident tuition rates for the first 12 months of enrollment and are subject to the institution's tuition policies.

• Veterans enrolling more than 12 months after discharge or in graduate degree programs are subject to the tuition policies established by the state educational institution.

• Effective July 1, 2013.
