Allows volunteer firefighters to hold elected office in a unit that receives fire protection services from their department, provided they do not receive compensation for their firefighting services

Excludes clothing allowances, automobile allowances, volunteer firefighters' association membership fees, and insurance coverage from the definition of "compensation for services"

Volunteer firefighters serving in multiple departments may hold elected office in a unit if they receive no compensation from any department providing fire protection to that unit

Volunteer firefighters serving in a single department that covers multiple units may hold elected office in any of those units if they receive no compensation from the department

Effective date of July 1, 2013; grandfathers in volunteer firefighters already holding elected office as of January 1, 2013, allowing them to complete their current term
