Beginning July 1, 2014, schools in Indiana may be accredited either under a performance based accreditation system approved by the Indiana State Board of Education or by a national or regional accreditation agency approved by the state board

The State Board of Education must establish a system for approving accreditation agencies and procedures for determining whether schools are making progress toward meeting accreditation criteria

Eliminates the probationary accreditation status, leaving only two accreditation levels: full accreditation status and not fully accredited

The Indiana Department of Education must verify school compliance with legal standards including health and safety requirements, minimum time requirements, curriculum offerings, staff performance evaluation plans, and school improvement plans

Schools or school corporations that refuse to comply with legal standards after the state board compels compliance will be recognized as not fully accredited, with potential consequences including withholding of state tuition support payments
