SB 461 Summary

• School corporations must advise students of vocational training offered during annual reviews of graduation plans starting July 1, 2013.

• Guidance counselors must advise students about vocational or industrial training opportunities and career alternatives to college, including armed forces service, when developing graduation plans.

• Legislative council shall establish a vocational education study committee to identify current programs, increase student participation, modernize training, reduce costs, and improve transportation for vocational education; committee expires July 1, 2014.

• Commission on state tax and financing policy must study feasibility of offering tax incentives to companies that provide vocational or industrial job training to high school students during the 2013 interim.
