SB 555 Summary

• Creates a new "Indiana firearms reciprocity license" as an alternative to qualified or unlimited handgun licenses, effective July 1, 2013.

• Requires applicants to submit a recent photograph, proof of completing an 8-hour certified handgun safety training program (including 3 hours on firing range and 45 rounds fired), and for non-residents, evidence of reciprocity with Indiana's handgun laws.

• Makes it a Class D felony to falsely certify completion of a handgun safety and training program.

• Allows a person to hold both an Indiana firearms reciprocity license and a qualified or unlimited license simultaneously.

• Requires the superintendent to reevaluate lifetime reciprocity license holders every 4 years and revoke licenses if holders no longer meet eligibility requirements; permits reciprocity agreements with other states.
