Senate Bill 571 Summary

• Board of Animal Health shall develop and adopt standards for generally accepted agricultural and management practices, considering input from Purdue University, USDA agencies, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, and industry organizations.

• Agricultural operations conforming to generally accepted agricultural and management practices cannot be found to be a public or private nuisance.

• Political subdivisions are prohibited from regulating agricultural operations by ordinance or resolution, except through a waiver petition process to the director for special circumstances.

• Defines "generally accepted agricultural and management practices" as agricultural and management practices conforming to standards developed by the Board of Animal Health.

• Effective date: July 1, 2013.
