SB 593 Summary

• Amends IC 11-13-3-2 to modify parole eligibility for individuals serving multiple life sentences
• Allows persons convicted of more than one felony sentenced to more than one life sentence to be eligible for parole after serving 30 years, whether sentences are consecutive or concurrent
• Exempts persons convicted under IC 35-42-4 (sex offenses) and similar offenses committed before 1978 from the 30-year parole eligibility provision
• Updates gender-neutral language throughout the statute, replacing "his" and "he" with "the person's" and "the person"
• Effective date: July 1, 2013
