• Spent 29 years in public service for the city of Anderson, including work as secretary to then-Mayor Tom McMahan and in the city controller's office

• Was married to Samuel P. Merritt until his death in 2005 and had two children, Frederick E. Merritt I and Jeanesta A. Merritt

• Was known among colleagues and the public as a knowledgeable, capable public servant and was a member of Indiana Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 154

• Secretary of the Senate is directed to transmit copies of the resolution to her two children
