Recognizes the University of Notre Dame du Lac on its 170th anniversary, marked on November 26, 2012

Acknowledges the university was founded in South Bend, Indiana by Reverend Edward Sorin of the Congregation of the Holy Cross and officially chartered by the Indiana General Assembly in 1844

Notes that the university recovered from an 1879 fire that destroyed the Main Building and expanded from the original 524 acres to 1,250 acres with 143 buildings

Highlights that Notre Dame comprises four undergraduate colleges, a School of Architecture, Law School, and Graduate School with 40 master's and 24 doctoral degree programs, with approximately 12,000 total students including 8,400 undergraduates

Directs the Secretary of the Senate to transmit a copy of the resolution to President Reverend John I. Jenkins, C.S.C.
