IN HB1007

Deletes provisions prohibiting volunteer firefighters from assuming or holding elected offices in units that receive fire protection services from their department, effective July 1, 2014.

Allows volunteer firefighters to hold elected office in units other than those receiving fire protection services from their department.

Permits volunteer firefighters already holding elected office on January 1, 2013, to continue serving until their term expires, with a transition period through July 1, 2017.

Maintains restrictions on full-time paid firefighters who are government employees from holding elected office in the units that employ them.

Amends Indiana Code IC 3-5-9 regarding election eligibility for government employees and firefighters.
