IN HB1017

Amends Indiana Code to define "person" for purposes of IC 34-30-20-1.5 to include individuals, employers, governmental entities, corporations, firms, trusts, partnerships, associations, and businesses.

Creates new civil immunity provision stating a person is not liable for damages caused by another person's use of force if that force was justified under Indiana's self-defense law (IC 35-41-3-2).

Eliminates the immunity defense if the person engaged in gross negligence or willful/wanton misconduct that was the proximate cause of the loss or damage.

Effective date: July 1, 2014.
