HB 1130 Summary

• Defines "judicial officer" to include justices, judges, magistrates, and judges pro tempore serving in Indiana state and local courts.

• Permits judicial officers to possess and use firearms in the same locations where law enforcement officers authorized under IC 5-2-1 may carry firearms while performing official duties.

• Prohibits state and political subdivision entities from restricting judicial officers' firearm possession on land or in buildings and structures owned or leased by the state, state agencies, or political subdivisions.

• Grants judicial officers the same civil and criminal immunities and legal defenses for firearm possession and use that law enforcement officers receive when carrying firearms in the course of official duties.

• Takes effect July 1, 2014.
