House Bill No. 1135 Summary

• School building governing bodies may adopt a policy forbidding use of the building as a polling place, with notification to the county election board required no later than 45 days before an election for the policy to take effect.

• County election boards must supply and pay for all security at school buildings used as polling places throughout the time polls are open.

• Fire stations and other public buildings continue to be made available without charge to counties for holding elections.

• Counties cannot be required to sign agreements assuming liability as a precondition for using public buildings to hold elections.

• Effective date: July 1, 2014.
