HB 1138 Summary

• Amends Indiana Code IC 21-12-6 to modify eligibility requirements for the Twenty-first Century Scholars Program scholarship.

• Students attending nonaccredited, nonpublic high schools must score at or above the top seventy-fifth percentile on the SAT or ACT test, using the previous academic year's scholarship recipients' scores as the benchmark.

• Removes the requirement that nonpublic school students must be accredited by the state board of education or a national/regional accrediting agency to participate in the program.

• Applies to students graduating from high school after June 30, 2014, and who initially attend an eligible institution by the fall semester of the year following graduation.

• Effective date: July 1, 2014.
